REVIEW: Under The Desert Sky // Lynne Hartke

Synopsis:

There comes a time in life when we find ourselves in the desert place of burning questions: Why? and Why me? But even as we shake our fist heavenward, the heart whispers another question: Who? Who are you, God? Who are you to me?

Against the backdrop of the Sonoran Desert, Lynne Hartke asks her own hard questions as cancer arrives like a thief with one goal: to take it all. Hair. The contents of a stomach. A marriage. A life. As her days become a blur of doctors' appointments, treatments, and surgeries, she wrestles with a tumble of tangled emotions, a shaken faith, and crushing self-doubt. And then, the unthinkable. Cancer is now threatening not only her own life but also the lives of both her parents.

Through her raw, lyrical words, Hartke invites you to discover, as she did, that even in life's hardest places, you are not alone in your fear, you are not foolish to hope, and you are never forgotten by a loving, pursuing God. Never.

"Even life's most desolate experiences can bring beautiful surprises."

About the author:

Lynne Hartke is a breast cancer survivor who celebrates the difficult and the beautiful with her husband, Kevin, in Arizona, where they have pastored a church for over thirty years. She blogs regularly at www.lynnehartke.com.

Commentary:

Lynne hartke tells us in this book his hard confrontation with cancer, as he enters taking everything, making him doubt the power and love of God.

Without putting that word out of his mind he kept himself in a battle with her constantly.
This book is an example that you must always strive to survive in the hard battles that make you face life. That we must be strong and leave everything in God's hands because he will take control in difficult times.

Facing the desert by itself, finding comfort in the words of God. Even their marriage was being affected.

But in spite of everything, he never stopped living.

Commentary:

This book I liked although there is a lot of pain in it, it talks about the loss of a mother, about the death of a child, about how a family is destroyed and how a girl of only 14 years tries to have a family again .
As she must cope with the death of her sister and see that her mother blames it for what happened. At the same time a strange personage Mea intervenes who is obsessed with our little protagonist Eleanor and seeks to contact her because something inside her says she knows her as well as her relatives.

It is a book that you do not want to take off until you finish it, it keeps you in suspense and every page that you want to read more and more until you discover what the hell is happening. You can feel the pain of each character, as they face him in their own way.

Can eleanor regain her family?
What does this strange character want with her?
What relationship have with her family?

"She feels like a woman who has lived through the Depression, a woman who has watched her babies die, who is beaten down by circumstance and who succumbs to it, who doesn`t fight back, because why fight back? why would you ever fight back when it hurts so much less to just lie down?..
                                                                                  Eleanor- Jason Gurley.

"Cause when God made you, somehow God knew that the world needed someone exactly like you!"
-When God Made You. Matthew Paul Turner.

Commentary
This book is a great choice if you want to sit and read with your children. Let them know why God made them and what their mission is in this world. Sometimes even being adults we do not know what our reason for being alive, this is not just for children is for adults too. I felt special when I read this book because I had not seen it this way and I felt grateful to God. At some point we need someone to tell us how special we are and this book did it.

Congratulations to Matthew Turner on this incredible book and to David Catrow for his colorful and vibrant illustrations.
